be nice to your brothers

i went to a wedding this weekend. amidst the hoopla and festivities, i found myself astounded by the hilarity that is my brothers {sam & j-man}

brother one {sam} played the best man. SPEECH.

Sam's toast was delightful, funny, heartfelt and contained a story about barfing. i think this = perfection.

the brother of the groom {spence!} gave a lovely speech as well. his speech, along with congratulating the newlyweds, had an undertone of fear and wonder that spoke to every single person in the room that had siblings. the beginning lines {improvised by me}:

"my father always told us as kids, 'be nice to your brother, because one day, he'll get to talk about you at your wedding'"

why had we let all these years pass without thinking about this divine truth? oh, us silly singles.

what will my brothers say about me? what embarrassing stories do they remember about my childhood that they will cleverly weave into a speech at the most opportune moment? i can only speculate. while this thought had me perplexed for a moment, there were more import matters at hand:

what stories will i tell about my brothers?

brothers, never fear, i will find a way to choose the perfect story that incorporates the appropriate amount of embarrassment that will leave your future in laws looking forward to you adding an interesting flair to family holidays. until that day arrives, i have much material to sift through.

here's to playing nice

  2. I believe this is the reason why siblings are, almost always, part of the wedding parties. They offer insight that no one else has had the joy of partaking in!

    P.S. - Beets are not as lusty as tomatoes
