i like to surround myself with encouragement and affirmation. one of my greatest sources of affirmation is none other than my roommate and friend, meg-o potato {bam. new nickname implemented, you can’t stop it}. while a normal dose of affirmation is unarguably a good thing, in potato and my case it often leads to inflated egos.
sometimes i sit back and imagine what affirmation in a normal friendship would look like. i imagine the following statements being made:
“you are so funny and kind!”
“you are such a good worker, X____ N______ company is lucky to have you!”
“i like your shoes. they are neat!”
this is what me and megan’s affirmations look like {keep in mind that these are just the beginnings of very long conversations}:
“your mutant power of controlling electricity is awesome. you would be a mutant to be reckoned with”
“oprah would be lucky to have you as a friend. seriously, why is she still hanging out with gail?”
one topic that we often frequent is our desire to write more. the encouragement and unrealistic claims that come out of these conversations have me convinced that megan and i could whip out a hit tv show no big deal or write an epic novel. curses! if only we had the time to spend nurturing the inner artist!
last november i found out about a little something called NaNoWriMo, also known as national novel writing month. this was it! i would finally have the motivation {more importantly, a deadline} to write the novel that would undoubtedly start my career as the next great american author. mike bet me lunch that i would fail. and indeed, fail i did. but i did start a blog, and i count that as a definite step in the right direction.
april is quickly approaching and with it the promise of renewed hope and fresh beginnings. the folks at NaNoWriMo emailed me last week to encourage me to join script frenzy. and join i did. look out, world. megan and i are in cahoots and will be writing what is sure to be the next hit tv show.
