2010 is a funny year indeed. 

yesterday. scene. thunderstorm brewing.  me: t-shirt, skirt, wedges (please note that this list does not include an umbrella or a raincoat).  good idea to walk to dinner {two+ miles}? definitely a bad idea.  do i definitely feel like i'm pretending to be an adult?  yes.  

jump to earlier this month.  sitting in my office.  i said it: office.  watching the harvard crew team practice on the charles river.  listening to bbc world news.  whoa.  when did i become an adult?

all this to say that when i read all over the facebook about finals, dead day, last day of classes, i'm with you!  i'm tracking.  i remember all nighters.  i gotcha. i gotcha.

wan't it just yesterday that i was in the midst of student chaos?

but after i shut my computer in the morning, close down the facebook and walk to work.  {i said it: work.}  reality hits.  i am an adult.  the harsh realization sits in: sure, i don't have to pull all nighters any more or worry about the stresses of student life, but whatever happened to summer break!?

so, while all of you youngsters are stressing over finals, please remember that summer is on the horizon.  there is hope.

in lieu of summer break i get to take 5 vacation days to go to alaska for a week.  while this in no way compares to 3 months of summery bliss, it will indeed be magnificent.  while i don't have a finals week keeping me from summer, the week leading up to a vacation can be stressful, too.  i am getting through by channeling hobo jim {the great musician up in alaska} and his song "backwoods girl."  this girl, way up in alaska, is up in the early morn - hauling water through the cold snow storm.  while i don't need to haul water through any cold snow storms this week, here is what's in between me and vacation:

1. a yacht party {i will be wearing cruise wear}

2. a pending list a mile long

3. laundry. laundry laundry laundry.

4. a bottle of chianti

5. sugar and spice with kathy {call her dora, cause she's an explorah!}

6. coffee

7. cantab: blue grass.

8. a pending list a mile long

so here's to whatever form our breaks come in, whether summer break or a week off!  huzzah!
